    Rev. Terri Jane Stewart, MDIV

I am a life-long learner and always excited about exploring the Bible.  I am an elder in the Methodist tradition, have an MDIV from Seattle University along with Post-Masters Certifications in Pastoral Leadership and Spiritual Direction.

I interpret the Bible by utilizing the Wesleyan Quadrilateral--starting with scripture, look at reason, experience, and tradition.

Starting with scripture, I learn, read, and understand the Bible to be written by people that are inspired by God and are trying their best to explain their encounter with the Divine.

In the reason category, we include:
    1. looking at the historical and cultural context,
    2. looking at the literary form of the writing along with the meaning of the words before us, delving into the ancient meanings of words in Greek or Hebrew or Aramaic--things we think we know.
    3. Last, pulling what we learned forward to address our contemporary context in a way that makes faith alive and acknowledges that God is still speaking to us.

It also includes our understanding of the world around us.  An acknowledgement that God created science, therefore science is a reliable gift from God.

In the experience category, we could summarize it as our lives impacted by the Holy Spirit's movement through our personal history.

In the tradition category, we look at what our ancient ammas and abbas taught before us.  We take this into account but it is not the whole story.
